Blending the traditions of storytelling and cooking, members of the Bilingual Education Program community at Chicago State University are compiling a collection of family recipes and the stories that go with them. We honor our parents, grandparents and other family members and friends by sharing recipes we have learned from them as well as our love for the people who taught us to care for each other through food.
This is an ongoing project, inspired by Carmen Lomas Garza’s magnificent book, Cuadros de Familia/Family Pictures. Instead of paintings, we offer our recipes and narratives. When we have finished, we will have and sell a cookbook; any profit from this cookbook will go toward a scholarship fund for undocumented students. Please add yours, in English and in Spanish, if possible, to the discussion tab above, or send to khmcinerney@gmail.com.
